Trail RCMP were kept busy over the weekend with drug and alcohol-related calls – some examples of which are as follows:

“On May 9 at 3:30 p.m. West Kootenay Traffic Services conducted an investigation into a 38-year-old male driver, of Trail, for allegedly operating his vehicle while suspended from driving and being impaired by alcohol,” said RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “The driver was travelling on Highway 3B in Warfield at the time of the incident.

“Charges of Driving While Suspended contrary to Section 234(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, Impaired Driving contrary to Section 320.14(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, Driving While Over 80 mg contrary to Section 320.14(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada, and for Breach of Probation Conditions contrary to Section 733.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada are being sought against the driver.  The driver will make his first appearance on August 15, 2019, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.”

The following day, on May 10, at 12:09 a.m., police were called to a verbal argument that occurred in the street between a couple in the 1400 block of Tamarac Avenue, Wicentowich said.

“Alcohol was a factor in the incident. The couple was cooperative and separated from each other for the night. While investigating this incident, the RCMP checked two drivers who were allegedly impaired by alcohol and subsequently issued Three-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP). One of the drivers had her vehicle impounded after being issued the IRP.”

Then the day after that, on May 11, Wicentowich said police received a report of two suspicious males inside a pick-up truck along Columbia Gardens Road, in Fruitvale.

“The RCMP located the truck and conducted an investigation into the driver, (who) was allegedly under the influence of a drug. The driver was issued a 24-Hour Roadside Driving Prohibition, a violation ticket for Failing to Produce a Driver’s Licence under Section 33(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, and had his truck was impounded.

“West Kootenay Traffic Services and the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP continue to partner to make our roadways safer for the public.  Please report any suspected impaired driving on our roadways to the Trail and Greater District Detachment RCMP at 250-364-2566.”
