A Fruitvale man has been arrested and some Trail residents lost power for more than an hour after a single vehicle crashed into a power pole yesterday, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich..

He said the call came in at 6:56 a.m. for a single vehicle collision near Highway Drive and Hwy3b.

“A grey 2008 GMC Canyon pickup truck collided with a cement barricade, and leapt over it before further colliding with a hydro pole containing live power lines,” Wicentowich said.

“Frontline Trail RCMP officers were actively conducting patrols for the vehicle, which had been reported as being driven in an erratic manner, when the crash occurred. The complainant believed the vehicle was possibly being operated by an impaired driver.

“Trail and Greater District RCMP entered into a drug impaired driving investigation at the crash scene, supported by West Kootenay Traffic Services based out of Nelson BC. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.”

Wicenowich said the driver, a 32-year-old Fruitvale man, was uninjured in the crash. He now faces potential charges.

Power was off in the surrounding area for over an hour while repair crews replaced the broken power pole.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or the driving behaviour of the vehicle prior to the crash, is asked to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566.”
