Celebrate Canada Day at Gyro Park in Trail

Celebrate Canada Day on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Gyro Park in Trail for a BBQ, Rotary kettle corn, fun activities, games for kids, and live music from 10 am to 3 pm and celebratory fireworks at dusk. The day marks Canada’s 155th birthday and Trail’s 122nd celebration anniversary. The family-friendly festivities are hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Trail and Trail Parks and Recreation with funding by the Government of Canada and community sponsors including the City of Trail, Teck, FortisBC, Kootenay Savings, Ferraro Foods, Columbia Power and the Trail Firefighters.
“We’re excited to gather and celebrate after a 2-year hiatus,” said Chris Vlanich, Trail Kiwanis Club President. “We’re also looking forward to hosting all the activities at Gyro Park, a new location for the event this year. The park offers so many amenities, like the playground, spray park, ample green space, skate park and picnic tables – these features complement the event and also provide opportunity for the event to grow into something bigger and better in the coming years.”
The federal funding and community sponsorships are integral to the success of the event as the food, entertainment fees and the fireworks take up most of the event budget. The Kiwanis Club of Trail and Trail Parks and Recreation also rely on volunteers and hope that more community groups come forward to help with the event in future years. “We invite non-profit and community groups to help us with the planning, fundraising and event coordination in the coming years,” said Vlanich. “In fact, it’s not too late to offer a hand this year. We’d welcome any additional activities and games to make the event even more special.”
The Kiwanis Club of Trail will be giving back to the community as all monies raised from the BBQ will be donated to the Trail United Church Food Bank. Also, a special presentation will be made to 2 Kiwanis members who have dedicated their volunteer time to deliver groceries to seniors during the pandemic. “Our volunteers have worked hard for this event and throughout the pandemic,” said Vlanich. “It’s a great opportunity to show our appreciation.”
