Jumbo Wild Action Alert

By early November, the Minister of Tourism is expected to make a decision about allowing a “resort municipality” including over 5000 hotel beds and 1300 residences in the Jumbo Glacier Valley. The valley is important habitat for endangered grizzly bears and is located within the largest un-roaded area in southern BC.  Kootenay residents have been fighting the Jumbo ski resort for almost 20 years, and this decision is a critical step in the process. EcoSociety is coordinating a deluge of comments to voice our community’s opposition to the destruction of this invaluable habitat.

Please take a few minutes between 9am on Wednesday Oct 27 and 9 pm on Oct 28 to email, phone, or fax Kevin Krueger, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts and tell him to reject the Jumbo Glacier Resort Municipality. Letter centers will be open at the EcoSociety office from 10-4, or in front of the co-op from 4-6, or at the capitol theatre from 6-10.
