The B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is thrilled to announce its upcoming Wetlands Institute workshop, a unique and immersive seven-day training event provided by our Wetland Education Program.

This exceptional opportunity is offered at no charge to B.C. applicants with wetland or watershed projects that benefit the province.

This workshop is ideal for consultants, planners, members of environmental and conservation groups, government representatives, First Nations community members, and landowners with a wetland project in mind. Participants will gain essential skills, support, and a valuable network to help bring their wetland project visions to life.

2024 Wetlands Institute Workshop – Central Kootenay Region

  • When: Sunday, September 15 – Saturday, September 21, 2024. Workshop days typically run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., though start and end times may vary depending on the day’s learning outcomes.
  • Where: Creston, Cranbrook, and surrounding communities
  • Cost: Free for B.C. applicants with relevant projects. Out-of-province participants can join for $1000.

Wetlands Institute benefits include:

  • Hands-on Training: Experience planning, constructing, and restoring wetlands using various techniques.
  • Expert Guidance: Learn from Tom Biebighauser’s “Wetland Restoration and Creation: A Technical Guide” ($60 value included).
  • Diverse Topics: Previous years have covered wetland types and functions, invasive species management, amphibian identification, grant writing, incorporating Indigenous knowledge, and more.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded individuals and gain access to a support network for ongoing conservation projects.
  • Certification: Full-time participants can receive a certificate upon successful completion of the workshop.

Spaces are limited to 25 participants, so early application is encouraged. Partial attendance may be considered for strong applicants.
