RDCK EOC issues Evacuation Orders to communities in Argenta Creek, Glacier Creek, Wilson Creek

The increase in the danger of fires in the North Kootenay region has forced the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), in conjunction with the BC Wildfire Service to move from an Evacuation Alert to an Evacuation Order for the communities of Argenta and Johnsons Landing in Electoral Area D due to the Argenta Creek wildfire.

Located on the east shore of North Kootenay Lake, the Order includes 191 properties within the two communities.

The RDCK EOC has also made the same decision to issue an Evacuation Order due to the Glacier Creek wildfire (N71099) within Electoral Area “D”.

The Evacuation Order area begins South of Glacier Creek FSR, North passed Duncan Island causeway, and includes Duncan Island. The Evacuation Order includes Two (2) addresses, fifty-seven (57) parcel identifiers – PIDs, and Glacier Creek Regional Park.

Evacuation Order issued due to Argenta Creek wildfire

The Argenta Creek wildfire, the suspected cause is a lightning strike, was first discovered on July 18 and has increased to approximately 735 hectares.

Residents and Visitors are required to leave the Evacuation Order area immediately. Evacuated residents are asked to go to their pre-arranged emergency locations. The Glacier Creek wildfire was first discovered on July 18. It is approximately 63 ha and the suspected cause is a lightning strike.

Residents and Visitors are required to leave the Evacuation Order area immediately. Evacuated residents are asked to go to their pre-arranged emergency locations, such as your primary residence or family or friends’ house. Register for Emergency Support Services (ESS) online at https://ess.gov.bc.ca or by calling 1-800-387-4258. Only if you need assistance should you report to the reception centre at the Nakusp & District Community Complex at 200, 8 Avenue NW Nakusp.

Meanwhile, in the Slocan Valley, the RDCK EOC has issued an Evacuation Order for the Wilson Creek wildfire in Electoral H.

The Evacuation Order includes 16 properties on the east side of Highway 6 from the Slocan Lake Golf Club north to Wilson Creek. See the attachment for the complete list of properties and the Evacuation Order map.

ESS may not be able to accommodate your pets, so make sure you have prepared your pets by having appropriate cages, food, water, and bowls, and ensure they are wearing identification. You may wish to arrange to have your pets cared for by family or friends.

Access to the Evacuation Order area is being controlled. You will not be permitted to return to your home during the Evacuation Order unless it is safe to do so and you have been given permission by local officials and emergency personnel.
