BCHP to increase roadblocks this weekend

Through the remainder of the summer impaired driving campaign, BC Highway Patrol will increase impaired driving enforcement – with a focus around special events – in an effort to eliminate fatalities on BC highways.
From the beginning of the summer impaired driving campaign, BC Highway Patrol has been conducting an extensive number of road blocks to target impaired drivers. Officers will continue to demonstrate zero tolerance toward impaired drivers especially at large events and music festivals including:
- The Salmo music festival this weekend;
- Anahim Lake and Quesnel in late July;
- Vanderhoof on the BC Day long weekend;
- Dawson Creek, Smithers, and Redstone events throughout August; and
- Lake Cowichan on the long weekends.
In order to reduce traffic fatalities, BC Highway Patrol is asking you to report high-risk drivers to your local police,

Examples of high-risk driving include: impaired drivers, fatigued drivers, vehicles passing on a double solid line and/or around curves, vehicles failing to maintain their lane, excessive speeders, and drivers who nearly cause a collision. Let’s work to keep our highways safer together.
If you are planning to attend an event and consume liquor or drugs, please arrange for a safe ride. There are many safe ride options available to attendees including: festival shuttles, taxis, rideshares, transit, and rides with designated drivers.
