Impaired driver crashes into dollar store in Creston

Creston RCMP said that a Creston man has been charged with multiple offences related to impaired driving after a vehicle smashed into a local retailer Sunday morning.
RCMP said that on December 18th at approximately 11:05 a.m, Creston RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the Your Dollar Store With More, located at 11-1000 Northwest Blvd in Creston.
RCMP said that a single vehicle was reported to have collided with the front window of the business resulting in damage to the storefront.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in question along with its alleged driver, adding that fortunately nobody was injured during the collision.
Police interactions with the driver led officers to embark on an impaired driving investigation. At the conclusion of sobriety testing, it was confirmed that the alleged driver was impaired by alcohol.
“At the time of this incident, there were numerous adults and children shopping inside the business,” said S/Sgt Brandon Buliziuk, Creston RCMP Commander.
“This was extremely dangerous and unacceptable behaviour by the driver.”
S/Sgt Brandon Buliziuk said all possible charges have been levied against this individual, as will be the case for any driver being found impaired while operating a conveyance.
“Fines, additional costs and liabilities for these offences in British Columbia, are very costly,” S/Sgt Brandon Buliziuk explained.
“It is not worth the risk to public safety or to anyone’s livelihood, to drive while impaired. Please plan ahead and have a sober ride.”
The alleged driver, a 73-year-old Creston man, was charged with multiple offences related to impaired driving and provincial driving offences related to the collision.
Creston RCMP said officers will be continuing with their holiday season road checks, and will continue to focus on impaired driving enforcement going forward.
