RCMP investigating fatal pedestrian collision near Kootenay Pass Summit

Salmo RCMP said that a 65-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 3 Friday evening.
In a media release Monday, Salmo RCMP said on September 22nd, 2023, at 9:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near the summit of the Kootenay Pass.
“The 65-year-old Castlegar man encroached onto the highway resulting in an on-coming vehicle striking him,” Salmo RCMP said.
“The driver stayed at the incident location and was cooperative with the investigation. The driver was not impaired or found to be negligent in any other way.”
RCMP said the victim was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services where he was later pronounced deceased.
