UPDATED: Fruitvale MVI sends local woman to hospital, RCMP seek witnesses

Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich issued a press release Tuesday morning regarding an MVI in Fruitvale Monday, which reads as follows:
On Feb. 22, at approximately 11:04 a.m., Trail RCMP and Emergency Services attended a pedestrian-involved collision on Highway 3B in Fruitvale.
A 79-year old woman was struck by a transit bus in a crosswalk in the 1900 block of Main Street. The woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition. No one on the bus was injured and the bus driver is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, however impairment has been ruled out.
West Kootenay Traffic Services in Nelson has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from Trail RCMP, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS), WorkSafeBC, Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement branch (CVSE) and BC Transit.
Investigators are requesting that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police or anyone with dashboard camera video contact WKTS in Nelson at 250-354-5180.

Details are still unfolding regarding an MVI in Fruitvale this morning, in which a Fruitvale woman was hit by a vehicle.
Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said, as the incident happened on a provincial highway, the RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Services are en route to take lead in the investigation.
It appears, at time of publication, that a 79-year-old woman was taken to hospital with unknown injuries after being hit by a bus, but this will remain unconfirmed until such time as WKTS are able to issue a release.
