Road check leads to significant drug seizure
Police have seized a massive amount of drugs near Salmo yesterday, according to West Kootenay Traffic Services Sgt. Chad Badry.
“Early yesterday afternoon, police officers from West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit and
West Kootenay Traffic Services conducted a road check on Highway 3B near the Village of Salmo and stopped a Honda Accord driven by a 27-year-old male from Red Deer,” Badry said in a press release issued Wednesday.
“An investigation into impaired driving by drug led to him losing his driver’s license for 24 hours. The investigation also yielded a large drug seizure including over 3800 hits of LSD, 180 hits of MDMA, 10 grams of Psilocybin (magic mushrooms), 16 pounds of marihuana, and 27 grams of Ketamine. The male also had four capsules of a drug believed to be 2C-B which is another psychedelic drug listed in Schedule III of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act not commonly found in the Kootenays.”
Badry said the male has been released on a Promise to Appear in Nelson Provincial Court and an Undertaking to abide by conditions related to the offence pending drug analysis and charge approval of six counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking.
“This is an extremely large drug seizure and quite disturbing that these types of drugs in this
quantity are travelling in our communities,” he added.
