Gold Rush Bookstore and local authors join nationwide celebration of independent bookstores
Bookstores are the fabric of Canada’s literary community. We anchor neighbourhoods. We provide space and ideas with which to expand. We make sure that Canadian voices resonate. On April 29, independent bookstores across the country, along with the authors we love, will celebrate Canadian Authors for Indies.
Here in Rossland the Gold Rush Bookstore and authors including Skip Rowland and Adrian Barnes with other guest writers will join forces for a special in-store celebration.
Come out and meet authors who will be guest booksellers for the day, have your books signed and soak in the atmosphere during this fun, one-day event.
Skip Rowland is the author of ‘No Return Ticket: Leg One.’ Originally from California, Skip has called Rossland home for the past five years and has just released his first non-fiction account of his adventures on the high seas. Covering seven years of sailing around to various ports in the world, his story begins with his boat being stolen and found in Mexico. Here his true adventure begins. (‘No Return Ticket: Leg Two’ will be published later this year. Watch for it!)
Adrian Barnes is a well-known local author and writer who has two books published which are receiving much fanfare. ‘Nod’ is a dystopian story set in Vancouver with a strange affliction of insomnia causing the population to slowly go mad. Adrian’s most recent book, ‘Satan a la Mode,’a multi-dimensional story with character names such as the Goldfish Madonna, Carlos HaHa, and Regal Quantum Holy, is sure to take the reader on another kind of adventure.
Authors for Indies Day is a nationwide event organized by authors to celebrate the important role that independent bookstores play in our communities, our everyday lives and the promotion of Canadian voices in literature. This special day gets people out to local bookstores, showcases local writers and gives us all a chance to support Canadian bookstores and authors. So far, nearly 500 authors and 100 bookstores across the country have signed up to participate.
About the Gold Rush Bookstore: We opened in late December 2016 with the help of many generous donations of books by local residents. In addition to the gently used books, we carry bargain books and new books. Gift items include PaperBlank journals, candles, reading glasses, local artwork and seasonal items. We have been given the exclusive rights to carry DAVIDsTEA by the cup, and also have a selection of their giftware and a small bulk tea selection.
