Pigs will most likely fly before the English rock band Pink Floyd returns to the stage to perform their progressive and psychedelic music in front of fans.

However, right here in beautiful downtown Nelson, at the unique Capitol Theatre, PIGS – Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute band will give Floydsters a taste of Roger Waters, Nick Mason & Company on Friday, August 5 at 8 p.m.

“Being the most authentic is something we take a lot of pride in,” said bandleader Josh Szczepanowski, who performs as Floyd’s David Gilmour for PIGS – Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute Band.

“It is exciting to be able to give our audience members something they probably haven’t seen before — a glimpse into what it would really have been like to see Pink Floyd in the 70s.”

Szczepanowski said the band was created from the remains of an original music project.

“Our bass player went out of town, and we had nothing to do — and it just so happened that that week we won some tickets to see a performance by a now defunct Pink Floyd tribute,” Szczepanowski explains.

“We left at the first break, disappointed in how the music was being presented – and decided we could do it right.”

Szczepanowski said band members then carefully put together a group of incredible players who are dedicated to recreating Pink Floyd — and who have spent the last eight years studying and painstakingly perfecting the show to honour the incredible music of Pink Floyd.

Szczepanowski said the response from fans has been nothing short of amazing with fans surprised by just how accurate the band sounds.

“We try to be exactly right not just in how we sound, but even in our movements and gestures on stage,” Szczepanowski said.

“It’s a wonderful honor to have people who have seen Pink Floyd during the 70s come up to us after the show and rave about how we sounded as good or even better than they did — though admittedly, we do have the advantage of modern PA systems now.”

PIGS – Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute will cover 47 years worth of Pink Floyd’s legendary repertoire from 1967 to 2014, ranging from the band’s earliest release to their final album from the psychedelic misadventures of Arnold Layne to the final float down The Endless River.

In addition to classics from legendary albums such as Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall, the band have many surprises in store, including material that has rarely, if ever, been performed live by the real Pink Floyd.

“It is special to us that we have the opportunity to share this music that means so much to us with a whole new generation of Pink Floyd fans who would never otherwise get the opportunity to experience it,” Szczepanowski said.

“We are constantly delighted by fan feedback, and we work really hard to be deserving of those accolades. We love sharing this amazing music with everyone.”

Tickets for PIGS – Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute are available at the Capitol Theatre Box Office or online at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca at range from $32.50 to $39.50 plus service charge.
