U23 World Championships start Monday for Nelson's Julien Locke
Nelson Nordic Ski grad Julien Locke is on his way to the U23 World Championships starting Monday — February 22-28 — in Rasnov, Romania.
Locke, who competes for Rossland’s Black Jack Ski Team, tuned up for the Worlds by capturing his second NorAm of his career on Friday (Feburary 6) at the Nakkertok South trails near Ottawa on the opening day of Eastern Canadian Championships.
The win was his second Nor-Am of his career.
Locke and the Canadian team left last week (February 12) for Romania.
“(At the Nakkertok South trails near Ottawa) was my last sprint before departing for Europe (Feb. 12) and was great preparation for U23s,” Locke wrote following the race.
“It was great to have Knute, Andy and Jess back racing after their time on the World Cup,” he added.
Joining Locke in Romania is Jennifer Jackson of Team Hardwoord – NDC TBay; Sophie Carrier-Laforte of Skinouk – CNEPH; Kendra Murray of Whitehorse; Frederique Vezina of MSA – CNEPH; Alannah Maclean of Walden Nordic – NDC TBay; Scott Hill of eam Hardwoord – NDC TBay; Alexis Dumas of Skibec – CNEPH; Jack Carlyle of Soo-Finnish – AWCA; and Angus Foster of Big Thunder NDC TBay.
Locke, currently the NorAm Sprint leader, has a chance to qualify for the national team next year by finishing in the top 12 at Worlds.
Locke closes out the competitive season March 19-26 at the Haywood Ski Nationals Championships in Whitehorse.
