MVAs in Trail and Castlegar cause community concern
Car crashes – one in Trail on Saturday and another in Castlegar Monday night – had onlookers concerned and asking The Source/Champion for follow-up details.
A collision in Trail near the intersection of Goodwin Way and Highway 3B (near the mall) at just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning was characterized by one reader as looking “devastating”.
According to RCMP Cpl. Mike Wilson, one person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the accident.
“We’re still investigating the extent to which alcohol was involved,” he said.
Two days later, just after 7 p.m. on Monday, Castlegar RCMP received a report about a car on the highway between Trail and Castlegar being driven erratically.
Police attended and found the vehicle in a ditch near Minto Road.
“It looks like they went off the road and the car rolled,” said RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew. “(Fire crews) had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the driver’s-side door to extricate the driver.”
Both the driver and the passenger were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.
It’s unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
