Environment Canada issues weather alert for West Kootenay/Boundary

Environment Canada issued a special weather warning Saturday for most of the province, including the West Kootenay/Boundary regions.
The statement said residents should expect cold Arctic air spreading across the interior Sunday.
“A strong ridge of high pressure from Yukon will advance towards the British Columbia Interior on Sunday morning,” the statement said.
“The cold Arctic air associated with this ridge will spread from north to south on Sunday, with temperatures lowering at least 10 degrees below seasonal normal persist for several days.”
The warning advises the public to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
Before the Arctic air arrives, Highway 3 — from the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass — can expect a heavy snowfall Saturday and into the night.
“A disturbance moving southward from the northwest will impact some British Columbia high elevation roads with heavy snowfall today and tonight,” the warning said.
“The Coquihalla Highway can expect snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm while the other passes mentioned can expect 15 to 25 cm by midnight Saturday.
“The airmass will dry and snow will taper to flurries behind the disturbance overnight Saturday as it plunges further south.
