43 injured in Coquihalla accident

Interior Health BC initiated a “Code Orange” response to a touring bus accident on the Coquihalla Highway, Thursday afternoon. The code is reserved for disasters or incidents with mass casualties.

The touring bus flipped on the highway about 30 km south of Merritt after hitting a median. Forty-three people were sent to the hospital. According to an Interior Health press release, five are in critical condition, ten are in serious condition and 28 have non-life threatening injuries.

Patients were sent to different hospitals including the Kelowna General Hospital, the Nicola Valley Hospital and Health Centre in Merritt and the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The passengers were on a tour bus that caters to Asian visitors.
