Its never to late to celebrate Christmas. At least that’s what it felt like for a 90-year-old Nanaimo female and her 83-year-old husband, after reading in a local paper about a purse with a significant amount of cash being found and handed over to the RCMP.

After reading the article, the couple called the Nanaimo detachment. A few questions later, there was no doubt the wallet and cash belonged to them.

The couple believe they lost the purse about a week or two before Christmas. They had stopped into the Columbia Bakery on Bowen Road in Nanaimo for a coffee and believe they had the purse with.

Both tried repeatedly to recall their movements but to no avail. Having reconciled to believing it would never be found, it was a shock to read just two days ago the purse had turned up in the lost and found and had been turned over to the Nanaimo RCMP.

We are so pleased to have been able to assist this lovely couple. They are both pensioners and have worked hard for every penny they have earned. Losing that amount of cash was troubling to say the least, and lead to many sleepless nights, said Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

The couple would like to thank the employees of the Columbia Bakery for their actions and local media for covering the story. They have also asked for privacy and do not wish to speak publicly about their ordeal.
