A Trail man is in hospital after attempting to be a Good Samaritan last Friday, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.

Hawton said police and fire crews attended a house fire at 683 Binns St., where a vacant house was ablaze.

“A local man had been walking by when he noticed the flames inside the house, and ran into the house several times to check for anyone trapped inside,” Hawton said. “He was subsequently transported to the Trail hospital for smoke inhalation, and has since been taken to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.”

Hawton said the fire appears to have been set intentionally, although the ongoing investigation precludes him from providing details at this time.

“The fire department was able to save the house, and damage was limited to the front room area, with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house,” he said. “This incident is being investigated as an arson, and Trail RCMP request anyone with information to call the detachment at (250) 364-2566 or call Crime Stoppers.”
