17-year-old girl shot near Grand Forks

Police are asking for the public’s help in investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old girl in Grand Forks.

“On Sept. 22 (Saturday) at approximately 12:10 a.m., RCMP received a report of a 17-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound,” he said. “She was lying on the roadway at Canning Road. The area where the young woman was found is a rural road with sparse population just off Highway # 3 and west of Grand Forks. The victim had called 911 on her cell phone, requesting an ambulance.

“The victim was conscious upon police and ambulance attendance.  She was taken to Boundary Regional Hospital where it was learned that victim had sustained severe wounds requiring surgery.  She was stabilized and transported to Kelowna General Hospital for immediate surgery.  She is now reported in stable condition, following surgery.”

Harrison said subsequent investigation determined the shooting did not take place at the scene where the victim was located.
