Too much consumption of alcohol keeps NPD busy during weekend

Nelson Police officers were kept busy dealing with people consuming too much alcohol during the weekend.

Monday morning, officers responded to man uttering threats to an ex-girlfriend and the women’s new boyfriend.

When police arrived they found the intoxicated man passed out in front of his home contrary to conditions of probation from previous charges.

The man was held in Nelson Police Department cells until sober and appeared in court to answer charges of uttering threats and breaching probation.

Again Monday, officers were called to the 1000 block of Stanley Street to a report of youth kicking over construction signs.

Two males were located and detained by police. One of the males was found to be intoxicated and was held in cells.

However, while in custody the male began exhibiting bizarre behaviour and was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital as a precaution as police feared he was overdosing on street drugs.

The youth was committed under the Mental Health Act until the cause of the irrational behavior could be determined.

Man known to police warned for handing out business cards

A 75-year-old male known NPD was advised to stop handing out cards and presenting himself as a legitimate business.

The incident occurred Sunday (June 3) when a NPD member was approached by staff at a local shop to report a suspicious older male was hanging out in the store and making the female staff uncomfortable.

The man was offering an applied kinesiology service to the women and gave them a business card but has no license to operate a business in the City of Nelson.

Intoxicated male arrested for breach of probation

On Friday (June 1), while on regular patrols Nelson Police members noticed an intoxicated male hitchhiking on Highway 6 toward Salmo. 

The 18-year-old was was found to be in breach of probation for a serious assault in Salmo and was bound by a curfew and to abstain from consuming alcohol.

The male was arrested for these breaches of his conditions and was held until sober and in compliance with the curfew before being released to appear in court July 23 in Nelson.
