Parks Canada staff found a dog who survived a plane crash in BC that killed his owner earlier this week.

The parks service says a rescue team found Rusty alive and well Friday afternoon near the crash site in Yoho National Park, in the Rocky Mountains near the B.C.-Alberta border.

The border collie survived the crash that killed the 60-year-old pilot Wednesday but ran off into the bush, where he was missing for a couple of days.

The man, whose name has not been released, was flying his Cessna 180 from Vulcan, Alta., to Springfield, BC, just outside Williams Lake, when the plane’s emergency locator beacon went off.

Rusty will spent the night under a veterinarian’s observation before he was picked up Saturday by a member of the deceased owner’s family.

RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
