New Tourism Resource for Rossland/Trail
LCCDT Tourism Committee today launched a new website www.trailrossland.com which is a partnership project with Tourism Rossland and Kootenay Rockies Tourism. This sports tourism initiative is a great opportunity for economic diversification for the entire region. In addition, it allows us to welcome the world to our region for sports training and for hosting sporting events.
The website is designed to promote the Greater Trail and Rossland area for Sports
Tourism which is a growing segment of the tourism market. Historically this region has been successful in hosting a variety of different events including the World Junior A Hockey Championships, Haywood Noram Nordic Ski Race, and the 2008 ProvincialSwimming Championships just to name a few. According to Al Graham Chair of the LCCDT Tourism Committee, “the Sports Tourismproject is a great example of how the communities can work together to encourage sport tourism events”. Deanne Steven, Executive Director of Tourism Rossland, indicates “Sports Tourism is a fantastic market for this area and the website really highlights why it is so great to host events here. We have fantastic facilities, accommodations and citizens who are excited to participate and be involved in these types of events.” The timing of this project has been key as the group is actively working on recruitingteams to train here pre-Vancouver Olympics in 2010 and has already received severalstrong enquiries. The LCCDT Tourism Committee’s mandate is to work collaboratively to develop a multicommunity and multifaceted approach to strengthen tourism within the region. This project is lead by Tourism Rossland’s destination marketing efforts. The region is seeking to attract a variety of sports tourism initiatives to the area.
