Food for thought: GDS-free curry noodles

Food for thought: GDS-free curry noodles

You've heard the term “currying favour” (fancy way of saying 'sucking up to...')? Well, these noodles will do the trick – all my friends love them. They are hot, though – I recently made them for a friend, and she kept saying her face was on fire (but she kept eating anyway, so they must still taste okay). Feel free, though, to ease up on the heat if you're not as keen on spicy food.

COMMENT: Spinning out of control?

It can hardly come as a surprise to anyone that governments – like corporations – employ spin to portray their actions in the best possible light (and to cast their opponents in the worst possible light). Nor is it news that many corporations – and the PR companies they employ – operate a revolving door for helpful politicians.

OP/ED: Independent candidate shares his views

By Joseph Hughes

The search for the new MLA in Kootenay West is well under way. Finally there  are options that go beyond the historic party politics that have caused so much voter apathy in our province; an independent. But how is an independent any better?

COMMENT: Justin Trudeau, Boy King

COMMENT: Justin Trudeau, Boy King

There is no accounting for political judgment when it gets caught up in irrational euphoria. The overwhelming victory of Justin Trudeau in the Liberal Party's leadership race demonstrates just how impoverished the state of our political culture has become. Did the polls -- almost completely meaningless at this stage of the political process -- so addle people's discernment that they could not see what was in front of them?

COMMENT: Shark Finning – An Immoral Practice

Alex Atamanenko

I recently had the opportunity to speak and offer support for Bill C-380, An Act to Amend the Fish Inspection Act and the Fisheries Act, which would prohibit the importation of shark fins not attached to the rest of the shark and enshrine in legislation Canada's prohibition on finning.  This bill was introduced by my colleague, Fin Donnelly, MP for Burnaby-Coquitlam.   Unfortunately, it was vot

Once every four years citizens are offered a brief reprieve from the responsibility of endless decisions about matters concerning their kids, their homes, and their work; of just getting along and making ends meet. Once every four years we are inundated with propaganda telling us that all the problems associated with the triumvirate of economy, ecology, and society can be resolved with the stroke of a pencil. Just one X, if placed in the right spot on the ballot, will do the trick.

Revelations from...Revelations

“After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.”

Heady words from the Book of Revelation. John of Patmos writes of the end of time, the final reckoning, a moment when people from every nation will stand with the Lamb of God. Standing in their white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

COMMENT: B.C. Liberals in no position to give other parties lessons on political fundraising

It's a bit rich for the B.C. Liberal party to be giving lessons to the BC NDP on political fundraising, as they tried to do over the weekend after the NDP sent a fundraising appeal to corporate Liberal party donors.

The Liberals might have been well-advised to leave well enough alone, if for no other reason than it might invite comparisons over their own track record when it comes to fundraising.

WHO REALLY OWNS CITY HALL 7: (#9)

The Official Community Plan (OCP) is a bylaw like no other. The Municipal Act not only requires councils to adopt an OCP; it establishes a time limit for its adoption. The procedure for developing and adopting an OCP is also without equal. The Act requires councils to hold public hearings and it prescribes the form, content, and means for publishing their intentions to adopt or amend an OCP.

Earth Day Special — The Demise of ‘Black’ Energy

Going, going – not yet gone – but definitely going; the ‘black’ energy economy is on its last legs.

I know, this is an audacious statement, but we have the ability and the renewable sources of power to make it a reality. As climate scientist Andrew Weaver says, it’s up to Generation Us.

Burning ‘black’ energy – coal, oil, and natural gas – is the leading source of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions that are the prime driver of climate change.
