Five Trail teens got the experience of a lifetime while bringing a whole new realm of publicity for Silver City Days' 50th anniversary this year.

City communication and events coordinator Andrea Jolly said she was surprised by the initiative shown by Grade 11 J. L. Crowe student Eric Gonzalez, 17, when he approached her offering his videography skills to the city.

“I thought that was impressive initiative, and he was very poised and professional,” she said.

Food for thought: Teenager-approved pulled pork sandwiches

Food for thought: Teenager-approved pulled pork sandwiches

Sorry I'm a day late with this. On long weekends, I always confuse Sunday and Monday (see, TOLD you I was the ADHD poster child!) at any rate, I hope you find this recipe worth the wait! Thanks to Melissa for the original idea, which I tweaked to my family's taste (we like added heat and spice, and I put garlic in almost everything).

Ingredients:

1 pork shoulder roast (we used eye of round beef, and it was a little too stringy - pork will work better because of its higher fat content)

Rossland's new sister: Surnadal, Norway, birthplace of Olaus Jeldness

Mayor Greg Granstrom and a gift to Surnadal—a moose antler carved with the City of Rossland coat of arms

Following on the (free) heels of an enormously successful 116th Winter Carnival in which the new bronze statue of Olaus Jeldness in downtown Rossland was feted by hundreds of merrymakers—including Olaus lookalikes, visiting Norwegian dignitaries, and descendants of Olaus himself—the City of Rossland and the municipality of Surnadal, Norway, have decided to tie the knot.

Rossland puts a new branding iron in the fire just as the Gateway Project posts for proposals

"Option Two"

The Rossland "brand" is getting a makeover to give key stakeholders a "consistent, professional image"—stakeholders such as the city, the Chamber of Commerce (CC), the library, and Tourism Rossland (TR)—but council was divided in April over the logo suggested by the designer and asked for more alternatives.
