In a town mostly known for its alpine sports champions, George Grey has helped put Nordic skiing on the map both locally and nationally. As he crossed the finish line in Canmore last week for the last time in his competitive career, Grey was, needless to say, a little misty-eyed as he embraced his father in a show of thanks for helping him through a world class career.

Grey closed out his eleven year run of international racing in the true spirit of a champion.

March 2011 is for the dogs, as are Mother Nature and groundhogs

March 2011 is for the dogs, as are Mother Nature and groundhogs

I usually look forward to March, but I have to say this month has been hideous. I am beginning to think that Mother Nature is playing head games with us and that Groundhog Day should be banned.

Lone Sheep Publishing's own David Livingstone(right) and Shane Hainsworth accept 1st place in the 24hr WebDev Showdown

They came, they saw, they ingested excess amounts of caffeine and ultimately (despite a few baggy red eyes) they conquered. While others may have been enjoying the new snow in the mountains, hanging out with family or simply relaxing over the weekend, three local web-development teams spent all night Friday and most of Saturday, designing, coding and building new websites for deserving non-profits and emerging small businesses. Indeed the first 24 Hour WebDev Showdown put some of the region's best web designers to the test.

Electric Grapevine: Caught in the headlines

A scroll through Yahoo the other morning left me rather confused over the priorities in which mainstream media use to line up our daily news feed. A headline speaking about the importance of getting some folks to safety in the aftermath of the tsunami seemed reasonable to me until I looked further into it.

Twilight Stars moved to safety.”
