Keri Lynn Zwicker…a 'Harpchick' who sings like an angel but plays like the devil

Keri Lynn Zwicker…a 'Harpchick' who sings like an angel but plays like the devil

With crystalline vocals, feisty carbon-fibre harp playing and an unfettered sense of fun Keri Lynn Zwicker has been a bright addition the Western Canadian folk music scene. Her eclectic epertoire and quick wit delight listeners who are surprised at how truly entertaining a harp show can be.

Rich & Rare is more than just a harp album. Keri Lynn sings with that tangy traditional edge– there's no "Celtic mists" here. John Leeder, Canadian Society for Traditional music.

Free CPR courses available in Castlegar, Trail Nov. 19

Instructor/paramedic Billie Padavell demonstrates CPR

Would you know what to do if someone collapsed right in front of you?

Of course, call 9-1-1, but what about those critical moments spent waiting for the ambulance? Performing CPR and defibrillation within one to two minutes of a cardiac arrest helps to increase survival rates to 90 per cent, but that rate plummets to 30 per cent after just seven minutes.

This is why staff and instructors at St. John Ambulance are volunteering their time to host Community CPR Days in Castlegar and Trail Nov. 19, offering free CPR courses and certification to anyone within the region who pre-registers.

Joe Hill to serve up an evening of radical pleasures

Michael Gifford and Les Carter

It looks as though this Sunday evening's Joe Hill Coffee House is shaping up to be a real old school hootenanny: very Woodie Guthrie and very in keeping with the rebellious, populist tone of recent weeks with the advent of Occupy Wall Street. In short, the evening promises a melding of music and politics, the like of which hasn't graced the Miners' Hall since...it was a miners' union hall.

Closed mine adit still raining on the museum's parade

While negotiations between the city and Teck to reopen the museum's mining adit plod on with no external signs of progress, the museum has now closed its doors after a second consecutive season without their biggest attraction.

"Visitation was down for sure," said Libby Martin, the president of the Rossland Historical Museum and Archives Association that operates the museum and maintains the city's collection of archives and artefacts.
