The Selkirk Saints men’s hockey team is anticipating a pair of exciting matches as they welcome their closest opponent from Kelowna on October 16th and 17th. Both teams met in an evenly contested preseason tilt that saw the Saints lose 6-5 after a last second goal from the Okanagan College Coyotes.

Monday morning saw Rossland’s first Turkey Trot event at the head of Centennial Trail.  Organized by Pat Hinds, owner of Mountain Life, the race was sponsored by Ferraro Foods, Bear Country Kitchen, Ross Vegas, and Mountain Life, and all the proceeds went to the Rossland Skate Park Association. There were three races: a 1 KM for younger kids, a 5 KM for older kids and adults, and a 10km that went up Kootenay Columbia Mountain, around the Techno Grind, and down Monte Cristo Road.

With one fell swoop of a pen and a thousand dollar fee, Cliff Miller of Squamish yanked the title of 'Mountain Bike Capital of Canada' out from under Rossland’s feet (err tires) this past week. The battle of which mountain city is truly the mountain bike capital has since ensued with riders on both side of the spectrum voicing their opinions and questions over whose trails trump whose.

So, as you can guess, I am going to write about trails. Some of you may be familiar with this summer’s trail construction inside Grand Forks, and but most are not aware of the developments on the Trans Canada Trail, also known as the Spirit 2010 Trail across the region.
 
First, to the construction this summer, scheduled for completion in November 2010. I believe that the City of Grand Forks is on the cusp of a new era.

Community support brings a new groomer to Black Jack

The Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club, with 633 members last season, is pleased to announce the successful completion of its fundraising campaign for a state of the art track-setter (groomer). With a funding deadline rapidly approaching, generous donations from both the members of the Nelson & District Credit Union (NDCU) and Teck Metals brought the fundraising campaign over the finish line, just in the nick of time. The new groomer has been ordered and will be delivered in time for the upcoming cross country ski season.
