Bomber Great Sean Denison back as guest coach at Kootenays Finest Hoop Camp

Sean Denison, seen here defending a pass in action playing in Turkey, is back at his old LVR Hangar stomping grounds as guest coach at the Kootenays Finest Basketball Camp.

He powered the Trafalgar Totems to the B.C. Juvenile Basketball Championship and the L.V. Rogers Junior Bombers to B.C. Junior Boy’s Crown the very next year.

Did we say the LVR Juniors won the title with an amazing 38-0 record?

He led the varsity squad to a fourth-place finish at the B.C. High School AAA Boy’s Tourney during his senior year.

He then played four years of NCAA Division One Men’s Basketball at Santa Clara in California while representing Canada on the international scene during the summer.

Rossland racer takes overall best at Christina Lake Triathalon

Athletes from all around the Boundary, West Kootenays and as far as Edmonton, AB participated in the 2011 Pharmasave Sprint Triathalon in Christina Lake last Sunday. The short circuit allowed for fast times in all the categories ranging from Kids sprint to adults in age categories and team relays.
 
Along with the 134 athletes at the annual event, there were numerous fans cheering everyone on throughout the race along with the volunteers who assisted with race safety, time keeping, and the many other duties that come along with race day.

Half of the profits from this double-header are being donated to West Kootenay Habitat for Humanity.

Castlegar's Dam City Rollers take on Nelson's Lumber Jackies, then Nelson's Killjoys take it to the track again Salmo's Babes of Brutality. Come watch some intense 8-wheeled action and feel good about giving back to your community.

Roller Derby fever continues its epidemic-like spread through area women and now, for the first time in the Rossland area, it has spread to young girls. Yes, following in the path set by Gnarlie’s Angels and the West Kootenay Roller Derby League (which has quickly exploded into Canada’s largest Roller Derby league) the kids are now lacing up their skates as well.  On Sunday, emissaries from Slocan City’s junior team, the Damage Patch Kids, came to town to help our aspiring junior derbyers get the hang of it.
