Tyler McKay concluded the Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf circuit the way he started - with a victory.

The Birchank golfer fired a 1-under-par 107 to edge Brenan Moroney and capture the Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf title Sunday at the Balfour Golf Club.

West Kootenay U14 and U19 girls softball teams travelled to Summerland this past Mother's Day weekend.

There was a total of 24 teams between the two divisions.

The West Kootenay U14 and U19 teams both went 5-0 before coming to tight finishes in the finals.

Playing on his home course Riley Rollick is not going to get beat by anyone . . . not even Brenan Moroney.

The home-course golfer fired a 3-over-par 75 to edge the Birchbank Moroney and Aiden Browell of Champion Lakes by two shots to capture Salmo stop on the West Kootenay Zone One Junior Circuit Saturday at the Salmo Golf course.

Rollick carded three birdies on the day as players most players struggled with the testy Salmo greens.

The tour now shifts to the Home of Champions region as the players tackle Rossland's Redstone Saturday and Birchbank Sunday.

Move over girls, there’s a new team on the horizon ready to take charge.

The Slocan Valley Vendettas pulled off the surprise of the night, knocking off league power Salmo’s Babes of Brutality 181-154 in West Kootenay Women’s Roller Derby League action Saturday at the Selkirk College Gymnasium.

The win was the first of the season for the Vendettas.

“We are so excited to say that we won our first bout of the season against the Babes of Brutality and it is our first regular-season win to boot,” said a Vendetta spokesperson.

Bout two goes Saturday at Selkirk College

The Roller Derby girls are back at it Saturday at Selkirk College.

The second bout of the West Kootenay Roller Derby season is ready to kick off Saturday at the Selkirk College Gymnasium.

The doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. with the Dam City Rollers up against the Rossland/Trail Roller Girls.

At 7 p.m. Salmo's Babes of Brutality meet South Slocan’s Valley Vendettas.

Rossland Trail Roller Girls set to do battle!

The Red Army is aiming for a win this Saturday as they battle their sisters from Castlegar.

West Kootenay Roller Derby league’s second bout of the season will open with a much-anticipated match up, the Rossland Trail Roller Girls (RTRG) versus Castlegar’s Dam City Rollers.

RTRG will have to put on their game faces as they take on the Dams, a hard hitting team that they have spent much time training with.
