Egg-splosive controversy: Kootenay radio show investigation delves into the world of local eggs

 An investigative report by John Steinman of the Nelson-produced radio show, Deconstructing Dinner, sheds new light on the way in which the eggs we consume locally are produced, how their quality is overseen, and how their sources are accounted for. When is an egg farm not an egg farm? When is local not local? The answers will surprise or even shock you. The podcast is below. COMMENT: Back to school...and school controversies

Some good news on the school front you've likely all heard about: Maclean Elementary has, this fall, two full kindergarten classes, which seems to point to an upward trend in future RSS enrollment. Of course, this being School District 20 under the financial thumb of BC's so-called 'Liberal' government, there's a bad side to the story as well. In the last week, according to reports, Maclean turned away four prospective kindergarten enrollees, one from Rossland and three from Warfield. The child from Rossland has since been accepted, but the Warfield kids haven't.

Trail campus enhances choices for community

Selkirk College’s Trail campus is expanding its services and course
offerings for the greater Trail community. In addition to being the home of long-standing programs such as Advanced Medical Transcription, Adult Basic Education and Nursing Unit Clerk, the college will now be adding more Continuing Education opportunities.

Obama announces plan to build roads, railroads and runways

In a speech in Wisconsin, US President Barack Obama announced a USD50 billion plan to restore 150,000 miles of roads, lay 4,000 miles of railroad tracks and rebuild 150 miles of airport runways within six years. The speech was given at an annual Labor Day festival in Milwaukee to union workers on Monday afternoon.
