Trail campus enhances choices for community

Selkirk College’s Trail campus is expanding its services and course
offerings for the greater Trail community. In addition to being the home of long-standing programs such as Advanced Medical Transcription, Adult Basic Education and Nursing Unit Clerk, the college will now be adding more Continuing Education opportunities. 

Mirroring the model that has proven effective at other campuses, Susan Chew has recently been hired into the new position of Trail Continuing Education Coordinator. “Trail has such a strong history of community and community pride. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring my passion for community education here.”  

Chew’s role will focus on expanding the development and support of programming available in the community; connecting with businesses to deliver customized training and providing support to local educational
initiatives.

Jim O’Meara, Community and Distributed Learning Manager, explains, “Susan has lived in the region for 14 years, is knowledgeable, connected in the community and full of energy and new ideas! We are looking forward to offering unique and relevant courses as we move forward.”

O’Meara himself is a recent addition to the Trail campus and is excited about the possibilities. “With these added resources we are able to accommodate and understand the community better,” says O’Meara. “Being tied into the provincial and national education system positions us to offer more services and programming directly in line with individual and business needs.”

The Trail campus has also been designated as “home base” to the provincially funded Employment Skills Access (ESA) Program. Funded through the Canada/BC Labour Market Agreement, the first year of this program assisted over 90 individuals in furthering their education.

The Fall Continuing Education Calendar, that describes the courses and workshops offered, was sent to individual mailboxes during the first week of September and is available for viewing online at www.selkirk.ca/ce.
