NINE BAY LAKE FIRE 100 PER CENT CONTAINED
The Nine Bay Lake fire is now 100 per cent contained. Cool, wet conditions have assisted fire suppression efforts on the 690 hectare fire burning 35 kilometres southeast of Golden.
Nearby recreation sites at Mitten and Nine Bay Lake are open to the public. Anyone travelling in the area should be vigilant of an increase in traffic in the area and beware of water trucks filling near lake sides and streams.
Located near Nine Bay Lake, west of Highway 95, this fire was first reported on August 26 and is currently under investigation. Today 108 personnel and 4 pieces of heavy equipment are working on the fire. Today crews are mopping-up and expect cooler temperatures to aid further in fire suppression.
While this fire is burning in a remote area and is not threatening any communities, one cabin has been reported lost in the fire.
Crews from the Southeast Fire Centre have responded to 217 wildfires since April 1, which together have burned 1,298 hectares. Last year at this time the Fire Centre saw 467 fires which burned 3,737 hectares.
The Southeast Fire Centre would like to remind the public that burning restrictions are in place across the centre. Although small, contained campfires – 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres – are permitted, the public is reminded to have hand tools and at least eight litres of water nearby to fully extinguish them. Burning barrels and fireworks are also restricted.
Almost half of all fires in B.C. are reported by the public. If you see smoke or flames, please call 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 on most cellular networks. For further information, visit the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch website at www.bcwildfire.ca.
