“Grounds for Haiti” fundraiser lowers ticket price--and more events planned

“We have been overwhelmed with such great support,” says volunteer Kari Cobalchini.  “When this was first being brainstormed, it became something tangible that we all felt we could help with in a way to support the rebuilding efforts in Haiti after the horrible devastation caused by the earthquake. Trail and area coffee shops are hosting coffeehouse style evenings and other events to support fundraising efforts towards rebuilding Haiti from the ground up.

The group is raising funds for PLAN Canada, one of the oldest and largest development organizations operating in Haiti and they have been playing a critical role in the relief efforts, collaborating with local organizations, governments, the UN, and other international agencies to respond to the immediate and ongoing needs of families and children in the midst of this unprecedented crisis.

“We had already put out word that the first coffee house evening will take place on Friday night, March 26th at the Trail Coffee and Tea Company with well-known Rosslander, Tim Bourchier entertaining guests.  We are very thankful to those who cared enough about what we were doing to share that they felt the ticket price was too high.  We now have tickets on sale for $10/person and we will be gratefully accepting donations throughout the evening and receipts will be given to those who donate $25 or more. To make this event viable, we need to sell at least 25 tickets by March 24th,” Cobalchini states.

The second coffee house evening is set for Friday night, April 16th at Clive’s Coffee Bar in downtown Trail with musician, Amber Joy,” Cobalchini says.   “We are also happy to announce that we now have a third event taking place on Saturday afternoon, May 15th for parents and children up to six years old at Bounce n’ Brew in downtown Trail who have also welcomed our fundraiser with open arms,” she says.

“More details will be forthcoming on that event but we would like people to set these dates aside as they offer unique chances to come out, have a great time and leave feeling fantastic about what they have just supported,” and Cobalchini adds, “the dollars we send to Plan Canada represent the generosity of local people helping to make a positive impact on long-term efforts in Haiti. Please watch for updates on our Facebook site and in local media resources.”

Again, tickets are $10 each and cash donations for this Haiti fundraiser will be gratefully accepted at the event.  Donations of $25 or more will receive a tax receipt from Plan Canada. Tickets are now on sale from volunteers and at Trail Coffee and Tea and Clive’s Coffee Bar.
