International Day of Climate Action - Thanks!

The Sustainability Commission would just like to thank everyone for their participation in the International Day of Climate Action. The event was well attended and was a great success thanks to the efforts of the volunteer organizing committee comprised of Michelle Laurie, Aaron Cosbey, Adam James and Nina Cairns. Thanks also to the performers who came out to share their talents. It is inspiring to know that we have so many talented people in Rossland. There were also a huge number of Rossland businesses that were extremely generous in their provision of door prizes demonstrating a fantastic commitment to their community and to sustainability. We are very lucky to have so many community-minded business people in Rossland. Thanks to Linda Schulze who went around to all the businesses to get the door prizes.

Climate Change Adaptation Local Observations Survey

As part of the Sustainability Commission's Communities Adapting to Climate Change Initiative, we are undertaking a survey of local observations of climate change. We are inviting any Rosslanders to fill out the survey and return it to City Hall or email it to Jennifer Ellis at visionstoaction@rossland.ca by December 1st. The survey is available online at www.visionstoaction.ca. Hard copies can be picked up at City Hall and if you want to avoid printing altogether, Word versions can be obtained by emailing Jennifer Ellis. The survey asks questions about what you have noted about local weather patterns, snowfall, water levels, birds, plants and insects. We feel that Rosslanders are the best experts on what has been happening locally and we want to hear from you. The information from residents will be combined with input from climate change experts and will be utilized to develop a Community Adaptation Plan for Rossland in the spring. Public workshops to gather public input on adaptation priorities will be held in association with this project in February.
