On Wednesday, May 7th, the final day of Youth Week, the 7 Summits Center For Learning will be hosting Red Talks, an evening of local guest speakers sharing their ideas, experiences and insights focusing on the theme: Life Path. According to Jonny Coleshill, a 7 Summits Learning Consultant, it will be an event that no community-minded Rosslander will want to miss.

“We are hoping to create an opportunity to share an excellent event with our community, that shows a little bit about 7 Summits, as well as an event that showcases what youth and community members are doing in their lives and for our region… our hope is that it will be an annual event.”

Red Talks is sponsored by the Youth Action Network and supported by the Self Design Learning Community. The event is also a fundraiser for 7 Summits Center for Learning. There will be a silent auction featuring a variety of local businesses, a 50/50 draw and, of course, snacks.

Although plenty of space is still available for potential guest speakers, several exciting Talks are already on the list.

“Kimberley Joines and Ian Lockey to share their experiences as athletes, and their journeys to the Olympics; Jenny Coleshill, a local bear biologist and ecologist; a local band from Castlegar, Roy Has Fire playing an acoustic set; Liam Barnes and his most excellent Parkour presentation; a Rossland elder, Richie Mann, to share his story and perspectives on growing up in Rossland and what a special community we have; musical talent from our 7 Summits learner, Hannah Klemmensen… and a few more indeed!”

The event will take place at the Miners’ Union Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm; the presentations will begin at 7:00 and end around roughly 9:00. If anybody is interested in becoming a speaker, they may contact Jonny Coleshill at jonnycoleshill@selfdesign.org.
