The West Kootenay Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists of BC held an induction ceremony on September 27th, presenting three new engineers with their certificates and entry into the profession. The ceremony was part of the Annual General Meeting of the branch, held in Nelson. Council member Larry Spence, P.Eng., handed out the certificates and Branch Chair Stefan Humphries, P.Geo., welcomed the inductees to the branch.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is the regulatory body for these professions in the province. Their role is to safeguard the public by setting standards to ensure that engineering and geoscience is practiced safely and ethically, by individuals equipped with the right training and experience.

Receiving their professional designation is a major milestone in the career of an engineer. This means they are now fully equipped with the training, experience, and expertise to conduct specialized professional work. Celebrating this milestone is important to the professions as well,  to ensure their continuity into the future.

The West Kootenay Branch organizes events for kids to engage them in learning about science and engineering, and to hopefully inspire the next generation of engineers and geoscientists. One of our most popular events is the Popsicle stick bridge building contest, held in the spring, challenging participants build bridges from standard kits at home, bring them to the event and have them loaded to destruction to see how strong they are.  This event is sponsored by EGBC and local businesses and associations in the West Kootenays.
