Two Castlegar men face jail terms for drug-related charges

Two young Castlegar men have been sentenced to jail time after being convicted or drug charges, according to RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew.

 

"On Sept. 19, at just after midnight, a routine traffic stop in Castlegar led to several charges being laid against a 22-year-old Castlegar man," she said.

 

"An officer on patrol noted a vehicle at a four-way stop that  was sitting for a long period of time watching the officer, even though he had the right-of-way to proceed. The officer conducted a traffic stop with the driver, and noted right away that the driver seemed to be under the influence of something other than alcohol. 

 

"Zachary Reves was arrested for impaired driving ( by drugs). A subsequent search of his person and his vehicle led to further drug charges. Drugs that were seized were cocaine, ketamine, and oxycodone. 

 

"Reves was held in custody and appeared in court on Sept. 20. He was convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking ( PPT), Possession of a Controlled Substance, and impaired driving. He received a 90-day jail sentence to be served intermittently (weekends), as well as a $1,000 fine and a one-year driving prohibition."

 

Further to a similar story reported earlier this week (see: http://castlegarsource.com/news/osachoff-facing-drugbreach-undertaking-charges-20990#.UFyyC65idMw) Jason Osachoff, who was arrested for trafficking in drugs on Sept. 15 in Castlegar, was also found guilty, and he was sentenced to a 94-day intermittent jail term.
