Summer's here (though you wouldn't know it to look out the window) and the pool awaits...
The Summer Brochure went into the mailboxes last week. If you did not receive one, you can view the Brochure online, at www.rossland.ca. You can also pick up a hard copy at City Hall, in the Recreation Department.
The last Folk Dancing class of the season takes place Wednesday, June 6 at the Miners Hall, from 7:00-9:30pm. Everyone is welcome!!
With Summer right around the corner, your “tweens” might be interested in taking the Babysitters Course. The dates have changed from those indicated on the front cover of the Brochure. The course is now being offered on Saturday, June 16 from 9:00-4:00pm in the Rossland Arena Lounge.
The last Home Alone course, before the start of summer, takes place on Wednesday, June 13 from 6:00-8:30pm at RSS in the Library. If you’re leaving your child home, alone for periods of time this summer, this is a great course for them to have. The program provides them with the skills they’ll need to feel safe and confident in stressful situations, household mishaps and in the event of an emergency.
The Pool is holding an Adult’s Swimming Lessons class, from Monday June 18 to Thursday, June 28, 7:00-7:30pm. This course will introduce adaptive techniques to ensure safety, stability and success in the water. The goal is not to make you an Olympic swimmer, it’s to ensure you enjoy being in the water. If you have phobias and or fears, don’t worry…..the Instructors can help you become confident and relaxed in the water.
The Rossland Pool is looking for all local youth who currently hold the Bronze Cross Advanced Aquatic certification. We will be introducing an assistant Jr. Lifeguard position at the Pool and are currently accepting applications for part time work throughout the summer. Please forward your resume to the Recreation Department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For the Teenagers in our Community, please consider taking your Advanced Aquatic Courses, in order to obtain employment in a challenging and rewarding field. Aquatics is a great way to work part time while you’re in High School and can help offset the cost of College or University. There is an increasing shortage in our area, of qualified Staff to operate our local, outdoor pools. If you’re thinking about your future employment options – GET CERTIFIED as quickly as possible. We need you! In order to be fully employable, you’ll need the following courses; Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, NLS, AWSI and WSI.
Roller Fit in the Rossland Arena starts on Tuesday, May 8, from 7:30-9:00pm and runs until June 26. Each 90 minute class will consist of on-skate dynamic warm ups, cardio, core and upper body strength exercises. Instructor Darlene Jamin (aka Slameron Diaz) will lead you in this fun and energizing total body workout – without all the bruises! This course is for women of all ages, from 13 years and up! Drop In is $12.00, including HST. Proper safety equipment, including a mouth guard, helmet, shin, elbow and wrist guards and either roller skates or inline skates are mandatory. For more information, please contact Darlene, at email@example.com
The Christina Lake Triathlon is coming up and registration information is available online, (firstname.lastname@example.org) or in the Recreation Department. The Triathlon is on Sunday June 24 and is very popular! Register early to avoid disappointment! Registration deadline is June 17 with early bird registration until May 31, 2012.
The Rossland Pool is scheduling several new opportunities in June – a Stroke Correction class, Adult Lessons and the Bronze Medallion will all be offered in June. If you’ve struggled with swimming in the past, or have genuine fears, the Adult lessons would be a great way to start the summer swimming season. If you’re interested in pursuing Lifeguarding, the Bronze Medallion is the first certification course you’ll need to pass. For more information about Lifeguarding requirements, please contact the Recreation Department.
If you’re new to town and interested in Men’s or Co-Ed Softball or Bike Polo, give us a call or an email and we can get you in touch with the Coordinators.
