A day jam-packed with entertainment, shopping, and celebrations is planned for the 22nd annual Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas scheduled for December 3rd in Rossland.

The day will include the Santa parade, food vendors, craft vendors, giveaways, the giant gift basket draw, tree lighting and a full day of back-to-back entertainment scheduled at the Rossland Art Gallery.

The entertainment will begin at 11:00 am with a Black Jack Skier Development fundraiser. Athletes / musicians from Black Jack will be playing a variety of pieces including classical piano, violin, guitar and string ensemble numbers. The event is by donation and all funds raised will go towards offsetting costs to Black Jack skiers who are taking part in an exchange program called Experiences Canada. This federally funded program ensures youth are exposed to different parts of Canada and its culture. Rossland will be hosting 28 youth from Ottawa in December, and 21 youth from our area will go to Ottawa in February as part of the program. Following the performance, people can stay and mingle with goodies, soup and background carols.

At 1:00 pm, 600 Cell, a local band made up of students who attend The Seven Summits Centre for Learning go on for a 1 hour set. The Golden City Fiddlers, always a crowd favourite, will perform at 2:00 pm. Louise Drescher will hold her adult story reading at 3:00 pm. This year, Louise will read a spirited section of Coal Dust Kisses, a Christmas memoir by Will Ferguson. Lastly, the Rossland Glee Club will perform at 3:30 pm.

All these performances take place in the Rossland Art Gallery on the corner of Columbia and Washington Street, by The Red Pair. Afterwards, people can cross the street to watch carolers and the tree lighting in Henry LeFevre Square, outside Ferraro Foods. The day finishes with the giant gift basket draw, near the tree; the basket is filled with generous donations from Rossland retailers.

There are lots of other activities happening throughout Rossland.  Keep your eyes peeled for a full schedule of events being released soon.
