On Aug. 30, 2021, shortly after 6 p.m. Creston RCMP Frontline members and BC Ambulance received a report of an unresponsive child at a campground east of Creston.

When members arrived, they found a child in serious medical distress. First aid measures were conducted and the child was transported to Calgary Children’s Hospital by way of BC Air Ambulance. On Sept. 2, 2021, the child succumbed to their injuries.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit continues to investigate in partnership with the Creston RCMP.

This is a tragic situation affecting many people in the community, including family, first responders and medical personnel, says Sergeant Chris Manseau, RCMP Division Media Relations Officer “This investigation is still in the preliminary stages with many tasks being completed. This will be a thorough and involved process involving many agencies including BC Coroners service.”

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a concurrent fact-finding investigation into this unexpected death. Due to the privacy of the deceased, their name will not be released. The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have no further information for release at this time.

Investigators are requesting any witnesses to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477 or the Creston RCMP.
