Minor mischief led to some high drama near the Trail high school this afternoon, after police got a call reporting what may have been fireworks going off at 12:53 p.m.

“The caller reported a loud, ‘bang, bang’ – which may have been fireworks, but could have been gunfire, so we had to proceed as if it might be (the latter),” said RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr. “It’s in the vicinity of the school, so we have to take precautions.”

J.L. Crowe, along with St. Michael’s, was on lockdown for roughly half an hour while police attended, including police dog services, which were in the area at the time.

“It was determined to be fireworks,” Orr said. “Two kids were detained shortly thereafter.”

When asked what consequences the kids would face, Orr said he wasn’t sure, as police were still talking to the young people.

“At the very least, there will be a long lecture on what this kind of incident does,” he said.

“Everything’s back to normal and school is back in session.”
