COMMENT: Endbridge
by Andre Carrel on May 14 2013 - 7:35am

On his return from an inspection trip to examine the results of the clean-up undertaken by Enbridge following an oil spill in Michigan, a Terrace municipal official was impressed with what he saw and experienced. He cautioned citizens to “dig into [the] facts who Enbridge is” when evaluating their proposal for the Northern Gateway Project.

LETTER: City predicts growth or stagnation...depending on the situation?

Dear editor,

A City of Rossland staff report on Development Cost Charges (DCCs), was discussed on September 12th, at a Committee of the Whole (COW) council meeting. The staff report under discussion recommended reducing Development Cost Charges (DCCs) from $3,300 to $2,320 for a single-family dwelling (SFD). Compare this with the average of nearly $13,000 for 45 BC municipalities surveyed.

LETTER: What has forced teachers to take job action?

Dear editor,

After 30 bargaining sessions at the provincial table we have had no offers of pay increases, benefit improvements or the return of the class size and composition language that the BC Supreme Court recently ruled was illegally stripped from our contracts.

Jack Layton's farewell message to Canadians

Jack Layton's farewell message to Canadians

Dear Friends,

Tens of thousands of Canadians have written to me in recent weeks to wish me well. I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughtful, inspiring and often beautiful notes, cards and gifts. Your spirit and love have lit up my home, my spirit, and my determination.

Unfortunately my treatment has not worked out as I hoped. So I am giving this letter to my partner Olivia to share with you in the circumstance in which I cannot continue.

LETTER: Motorcycle on Seven Summits Trail

Got a thank you, beef, complaint, kudos or just need to get something off your chest? editor@rosslandtelegraph.com

Dear Sir, While hiking up Old Glory Mountain on July 29 I had the mis-fortune to encounter a dirt biker riding the Seven Summits Trail.  The Seven Summits Trail is designated "non-motorized".  I followed a dirt bike track up the Old Glory Trail to Gibbards Junction, which turned left towards Granite Mountain, then later in the day I encountered a dirt biker at the intersection of Plewman Trail and the Seven Summits Trail.

No 'right' option in the HST referendum, but 'Yes' seems better than a return to PST and GST

No 'right' option in the HST referendum, but 'Yes' seems better than a return to PST and GST

To the editor:

The Liberals have made the HST an interesting topic of study for political scientists around the world; not in a positive way mind you, but as a fine example of how NOT to implement a tax shift.

What started as a lie in an election has now evolved into Christy Clark's attempt to buy your vote by reducing the HST rate by two per cent and haphazardly tossing in one time payments, much of it to recipients who don't need it.

LETTER: Charlton comments on his expulsion from council chambers

Dear editor,

My recent expulsion from a Rossland City Council meeting has been widely reported.  What wasn’t reported was the events leading to that situation or the inaccurate, unfounded, and misleading statements presented by Mayor Granstrom.
