Bill Profili of the Lions Club thanked council last week for their support in a recently resolved dispute with roofing contractor Flynn Canada Ltd.

Flynn has agreed to fund the Lions $3600 to build eight new tables for the Lions Campground, an amount that is roughly the same as the cost of labour the Lions had expected from Flynn as part of an earlier agreement, but which never came through.

In 2010, on a verbal basis, the Lions gave Flynn's workers access to the curling rink washrooms and lunchroom in exchange for labour to rebuild a roof in the Lions Campground.

The agreement could not be fulfilled in 2010 due to timing problems, but when Flynn returned to Rossland in 2011 to work on City Hall's roof, they did not get in touch with the Lions until just before they arrived. Consequently, the Lions were forced to hire a local contractor at their own expense to complete the roof job.

At the time, Profili estimated the total roof cost roughly $3700 in labour, plus $800 in materials. He petitioned council to write a letter of dissatisfaction, which the city did and sent to Flynn.

"Flynn did come forward," Profil reported to council last week, "They met with us, talked with us, and said they felt there was a mistake that should be corrected."

"Upon review, Flynn has funded the Lions $3600 to make up for the cost of the roof. That will replace eight tables with new tables out at the campground. They're going to be aluminum tables manufactured here in town, with the cedar sourced from the Harrop-Proctor community forest. Flynn has agreed to cover the entire cost."

"On behalf of the Lions, I want to thank council for their support," Profili said. "Now we're able to do a major replacement of the tables with the money that we spent on the roof."
