Here’s some good news for families in Rossland, and visitors, too.  An ‘Easy Peezy Family Friendly Washroom’, better known as “EZ PZ” has officially opened at the Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre.  In addition to Laundry Dog Laundromat, and the Rossland Public Library,  the Museum now offers a third convenient washroom.

“We are thrilled to be an EZ PZ location for families in Rossland,” says Emily Roberts, Marketing and Operations Coordinator from the Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre.  “Families are welcome to use our washroom facilities without paying admission for programs, events or the museum as we are a visitor centre and open year-round.  We also offer ongoing family-friendly and children’s programming, so the EZ PZ site seemed to be a great fit.”

EZ PZ family washrooms are a partnered initiative with the Family Action Network (FAN) and local businesses and organizations.  “When FAN was first established, our priority projects were based on a region-wide survey that asked parents what could be done to make our region more family-friendly,” says Christy Anderson, FAN Executive Director.  “Increasing the availability of family-friendly washroom amenities was at the top of that list.”  An EZ PZ washroom must meet a standard set of criteria to receive the EZ PZ designation.  In addition to maintaining a clean facility, amenities include a change-table, stepstool for little ones to reach the sink, large garbage can and a hook to hang diaper bags or other personal items.  “These seemingly small additions to a washroom facility make all the difference for families with little ones.  Adding a step stool so caregivers don’t have to hoist the children up to the sink in order to reach the soap and water is a big help,” Anderson says.

The museum, open year-round, has regular winter hours of 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  “We host one family event each month” says Roberts.  “For December, we have a few special happenings for children.”  Bring your family to the Jolly Jamboree December 14th from 12-4 pm and the kids’ day on the 24th, featuring a film in the theatre and a take home craft. On December 31st the museum is offering a children’s film and craft time to celebrate the last day of the year.  Visit their website for more information www.rosslandmuseum.ca
