May, Wilson overcome horrendous course to claim WK Crosscountry titles

L.V. Rogers Bomber Micah May chugged his through mud, creeks and rugged terrain en rute to capturing the West Kootenay Senior Boy's Crosscountry championships Wednesday at Camp Busk Trails near Apex.

May completed the less-than-impressive course in a time of 23 minutes, 25 seconds to claim the Senior Boy's title.

Taylor Wilson of J.V. Humphries in Kaslo won the Senior Girls title in a time of 17:45.

May edged out Walker Dempster of LVR by just over a minute.

LVR took the top seven spots in the Senior Boy's Division with Owen Thurston, Cail Spencer, Levi Smith, Trace Cooke and Galen Boulanger completing the LVR sweep.

Conard Watt of Kaslo finished eighth while Finn Elliott and Digby Benner, both of LVR, rounded out the top ten.

Wilson edged out Maddy Murphy from LVR for the Senior Girl's crown.

Lucy Carver Brennan of Wildflower was third.

Haliee Gerun and Rebecca Bracewell, both of LVR, finished fourth and fifth.

Rounding out the top ten were Sally Stevens of Rossland, Paige Lafranc of J.V. Humphries, Mai Wingerder of Trafalgar and Darya Huser and Jocey Terwood of Salmo.

Remy of Rosland won the Junior Boy's Division over Aaron Finky, also of Rossland.

Michala McLean of Rossland edged out teammate Christina Cutler for the Junior Girl's Crown.

All the top runners from throughout the zone will be at LVR Wednesday (October 24) to compete in the Kootenay Championships.

The top finishers advance to the B.C. High School Crosscountry championships November 3 in Prince George.
