On Sept. 9, at 6:39 a.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and EHS responded to an explosion that occurred inside a vehicle parked in the driveway at a residence in the 200 block of 8 Ave. in Montrose.

A 41-year-old Montrose man was located inside the vehicle and had suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the explosion. EHS transported the man to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The cause of the explosion is to be determined; however, this incident is believed to be isolated and targeted to this residence. Trail RCMP do not believe the public was or is in any danger at this time.

The RCMP ‘E’ Division Explosive Device Unit, Nelson RCMP Forensic Identification Section, and Southeast District General Investigation Section will be assisting Trail RCMP with the subsequent investigation.

Trail RCMP asks the public to remain away from the area until it confirmed safe and the investigation is completed.
