Man charged in connection with local thefts

This, from Trail RCMP Acting Sgt. Devon Reid:

On Aug. 21, Trail RCMP located and arrested a 30-year-old male for at least six offences stemming from the theft of items from unlocked motor vehicles in the Trail, Fruitvale and Montrose areas. The offences include Possession of Stolen Property, Theft of a Credit Card, Use of a stolen Credit Card and Theft Under $5000.

Police are seeking to hold the male in custody for court on Tuesday, Aug. 22. In each case, the suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and removed items that were left in the vehicle.

Trail RCMP would like to remind local residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuable items from plain sight in order to prevent thefts like this from occurring.

**UPDATE September 1, 2017:

This suspect, Shaun Venturini, appeared in court in Rossland on Aug. 30, and was convicted of the following charges:

– Two counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order

– 1 count of Possession of Stolen Property

– 1 count of Possession of a Stolen Credit Card

– 1 Count of Possession or Use of a Stolen Credit Card

He was sentenced to a total of 30 days in jail and placed on probation for one year with various conditions.
