Letter to the Editor: Open Letter to Rosslanders

Dear Residents of Rossland, Thank you for electing me to our city council. I greatly appreciate the solid endorsement your votes represent. I am deeply honoured and privileged to be given this great responsibility. I believe municipal government plays an extremely important role in the lives of all citizens, a responsibility that I will take very seriously. To borrow a phrase from a famous politician down south- “to those of you whose support have I yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight but I hear your voices, I need your help and I will be your {councillor} too”. I will work hard to prove to you that I am dedicated to representing the best interests of the majority of Rosslanders. I don’t imagine this will be easy. There are sure to be some opinions that differ from council but with good communication our differences will not be insurmountable. With a sinking worldwide economy, decaying infrastructure and declining enrollment in our schools, the next council will face serious issues. I am confident with the team you elected in this election we can rise to the challenge and continue to foster our resilient alpine community. To paraphrase Councillor Doell, to be a councillor you need an open mind, big ears, thick skin, a sense of fair play and intestinal fortitude (among other traits). I commit to civil discourse both within the council chambers and within in the greater community. I look forward to serving the community I love in this new capacity for the next three years. Thank you very much for your support and confidence in me. Kathy Moore Rossland
