Digital Mammography is the gold standard in breast imaging. Currently, KBRH operates a film mammography machine which is eleven years old and has no stereotactic capabilities. Digital Mammography with Stereotactic capabilities offers a substantial improvement in diagnostic ability for patients in the Kootenay Boundary region who require a diagnostic mammogram or biopsy to determine if an abnormality detected is benign or malignant. Securing digital mammography for our communities is very important as it will allow patients to undergo further diagnostic testing for breast cancer using a less invasive procedure and remain closer to home.
